IFP Welcomes Phased Easing of Lockdown Restrictions

Apr 23, 2020 | Press Releases

The IFP welcomes the carefully considered, measured and decisive approach adopted by government to ease the lockdown restrictions in phases as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

We are pleased that government in consultation with an array of stakeholders in particular local and global health authorities and agencies have taken a phased approached to ease the lockdown regulations.

Furthermore, we welcome the Presidents approach in the consultative spirit in which he had called upon various industries to make submissions and possible proposals moving forward.

We are confident that the National Coronavirus Command Council will make the correct determination to balance the need for economic activity to resume to save the economy but to foremost safeguard and protect the lives of South Africans.

As the May 1 deadline approaches for the easing of the lockdown regulations to Level Four, we await the outcome and announcements to be made by the various Ministers as outlined by the president in the week ahead.

Indeed, we caution the public to remain aware that the easing of the lockdown regulations through various phases will not be set in descending order due to the fact that fighting the spread of this virus is a moving target.

Our country right now has come a long way and has showed with steely resolve and determination that we can beat the community transmission of Covid-19 if we work together, remain at home and limit our movements to essential needs and seeking essential services only.
