The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal has warned that acts of xenophobia will hurt SA’s sports industry in African countries.
“One wonders how our sports teams like Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana will be welcomed in those countries where foreign nationals came from as South Africans are attacking and killing them. We are convinced that people in these countries might pay revenge to our sports teams by attacking our players. We demand that this violence must come into an end,” said IFP Spokesperson on Sports and Recreation, Mr Nhlanhla Msimango MPL.
“Such behaviour can only hamper our friends in the African sporting fraternity to participate in sports matches taking place in South Africa just because they will think that they will be attacked. Government must work closely with other foreign governments to restore trust amongst sports teams that there will be no violence aimed at players both from South Africa and African countries,” continued Mr Msimango.
“We are further concerned that these acts will also hamper our efforts to attract more visitors and investments into our country,” concluded Mr Msimango.
