ANC To Blame For Death Of Three Children In Inquthu Due To Shortage Of Water

May 23, 2017 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party is very distressed by the death of three learners from Qedusizi High School in Ward 13, Nquthu who were knocked down by a car while en route to fetch water after school.

“If the ANC and its MEC of Cogta, Nomusa Dube-Ncube didn’t dissolved the Nquthu Municipality, the IFP would have been providing municipal services including water. But it is not surprisingly that the power-hungry ANC is only concerned about promising people heaven and earth while failing to deliver. It is a well-known fact that they will bring corruption and to enrich their allies with public funds especially when it concerns to the delivery of water in the District. The ANC is eager to control the Nquthu Local Municipality just because they want to benefit from tenders in the uMzinyathi District,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Education, Mrs Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa.

“Even at Qedusizi High School there is no water. Children are forced to travel long distance with jugs to fetch water for teachers and themselves. This is an insult to the constitution of our country and is certainly not a better life for all. One wonders what the ANC thinks about Nquthu residents. Nquthu residents don’t want t-shirts, they want service delivery. This is blatant disregard of people rights as enshrined in the Constitution. It is very sad that this government will make a big show of celebrating Human Rights Day and Freedom Day, but our children have to die while fetching water for their school.

It is high time now for Nquthu residents to punish the ANC tomorrow in the by-election because these children died due to its greed and incompetence. The IFP calls on the UMzinyathi District and the KZN MEC of Education to urgently dispatch water tankers in the affected area, especially at Qedusizi High School,” concluded Mrs Madlopha-Mthethwa.

The IFP would like to send its deepest condolences to the S’biya and Kunene families, and friends of the deceased and to the staff and learners at Qedusizi High School
