The IFP has noted with grave concern the utterances made by the newly elected ANC’s eThekwini Chairperson, James Nxumalo, who is also eThekwini Municipal Mayor, that the ANC wants to establish a Metro Mayor in the eThekwini Municipality, thereby removing opposition parties from the Exco and putting an end the multi-party democracy and accountability.
“Having an Executive Mayor essentially means that the Mayor will appoint a Mayor’s Management Committee of his choice. This effectively will exclude opposition parties and shut the door on transparency and accountability. These comments fly in the face of the Constitution of the country and the spirit of democracy. The ANC wants to prove that it doesn’t believe in multi-party democracy and accountability. We are aware that if it was another political party they would have just commented and reject that. We cannot allow the situation where the ANC wants to do its own thing without being held accountable. This sends a clear message that the ANC wants to take decisions that suits their comrades, and to protect corruption,” said IFP National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala.
“We want to urge voters to give change a chance to flourish in South Africa by voting for the IFP because this country may not have many more chances to save its multi-party democracy. Your vote for the IFP could be the difference between defeat and victory for democracy; between providing a chance for hope and change to flourish in South Africa with the IFP, or watching our country stagnate and service delivery suffer further under the ANC,” continued Mr Gwala.
“Change is not just a slogan in this country. It is an urgent need. The ANC has had its chance to change South Africa for the better and after twenty years it has no more excuses for its failure to do so. All voters will have a choice in the next local government election in 2016, as to whether they want another five years of ANC government with more corruption, more criminality and more people without jobs or homes or hope. Or whether they want to bring hope and change to South Africa with experienced and accountable IFP administrations at local government level,” concluded Mr Gwala.
