The IFP demands answers from the KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu about how his office arrived at the decision to disband the KZN Department of the Royal Household without consulting other political parties represented in the KZN Legislature.
“This is totally outrageous and it is an insult to the Zulu King. We expected that before the Office of the Premier could decide on this matter, it should have informed us but we were left out. This issue was supposed to be discussed in the Legislature before any conclusions are made. There was an understanding that all parties in the Legislature needed to be convinced that the Royal Household Trust will be able to function in all aspects before the Department could be disbanded. This shows that the ANC-led government is undermining the Zulu King and all parties represented in the Legislature,” said IFP leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala.
“The disbanding of the Department by the Office of the Premier without consultation flies in the face of the KZN provincial government which always proclaims that His Majesty is the Monarch for all of KwaZulu-Natal. We are informed via the media that a meeting to discuss this matter will take place on Wednesday this week. This is putting the cart before the horse as we are informed that the Department has been disbanded. The Premier must tell us what motivated his decision to act in such a clandestine manner and whether he has respect for His Majesty,” concluded Mr Gwala.
