Call for Action to Eradicate Irregular Expenditure in Most Municipalities

Jun 28, 2017 | Press Releases

“The IFP is shocked to learn that KZN municipalities’ irregular expenditure levels have increased from R1.60 billion in the previous year to R2.43bn. This is a matter of serious concern. We are not happy at all about this situation. Therefore, this call for urgent action from the relevant authorities,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Cogta, Hon Princess Phumzile Buthelezi MPL.

“We are further making a call, that management of all municipalities which obtained qualified, adverse and disclaimer should be dealt with accordingly and those with potential to achieve unqualified reports should be placed under capacity building programs. Poor management regarding expenditure is the problem and CFO’S and Municipal Managers must be held to account,” continued Hon Princess Buthelezi.

“All these municipalities must provide implementable strategies that will deal with officials who contravene supply chain management policies and create unauthorised, irregular and fruitless and wasteful expenditure. We cannot allow this wastefulness to continue. The billions already wasted could have gone a long way to deliver much need basic services to the poorest communities in our province,” concluded Hon Princess Buthelezi.
