Clean Corruption At Government Departments

Mar 11, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP has expressed its concern that government departments are now seen as one of the most corrupt institutions in the land as no day goes by without reported cases of corruption in government departments and municipalities.

“I think that it is most unfortunate that the image of our country has been tarnished by allegations of fraud and corruption in so many government departments and public entities. These allegations have led to many convictions, resignations and dismissals of officials and are extremely damaging for us as a nation. We would expect government departments to be the institutions that are the most revered in our country in terms of clean governance and not the ones which are most tarnished by allegations of fraud and corruption. Clearly the President and those who are around him need to set the tone and be good role models when it comes to clean governance. Unfortunately what we see so often is senior officials lying about their credentials, getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar or being complicit in illegal activities,” said Mr Blessed Gwala, IFP National Chairperson.

“It is in the best interest of all the people of South Africa that something be done to get away from this tarnished image that has soiled our nation. If we are to grow our economy and create sustainable jobs, we have to attract foreign direct investments. Unfortunately, the negative image of South Africa will not attract potential investors. Government has to display decisive leadership and it has to start with the first citizen,” concluded Mr Gwala.
