The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal demands that the MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, must publish the full report about corruption involving the irregular award of tenders in uMkhanyakude District Municipality and other municipalities.
“It is indeed of serious concern that months are passing by and we have not heard anything from Dube-Ncube on the corruption report, nor have we heard of any action into the allegations against Jozini, uMhlathuze, Mandeni and Ingwe.
We, as the IFP will take all necessary steps to ensure that taxpayers’ money is not misused for the ruling party’s selfish needs and that of corrupt officials,” said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala, MPL.
“MEC Nomusa-Dube’s silence on the ongoing events of maladministration, fraud and corruption in most municipalities, and the delay in releasing corruption reports, shows a blatant condoning of fraud and corruption. It also gives an insight into the real reason as to why service delivery keeps getting worse in ANC led municipalities. The MEC and the ANC seem to be conjuring support for corrupt municipalities and officials since it has clearly failed to garner any fruitful action into holding culprits accountable for their wrongdoings,” continued Mr Gwala.
“The MEC has a duty to operate with the highest ethical standards, and with levels of transparency, accountability and good governance expected from a custodian of governing municipalities. Without the disclosure of the full report, the MEC risks not just further damage to her leadership credibility, but significant damage to the reputation of ANC-led government as a whole,” concluded Mr Gwala.
The IFP will write to the Public Protector and request that she take over this investigation as soon as possible. Enough is enough. It is time that this well-hidden can of worms is opened.
