Whilst there is some reduction in other categories of crime, the IFP remains extremely concerned at the high number of crimes committed in South Africa following the SAPS presentation today on crime statistics from April to December 2016.
IFP Spokesperson on Police Mr Albert Mncwango, MP said, “The money that the government invests in our SAPS is not yielding results quickly as were expected. Criminal activity remains high without any significant decrease for the period. Criminals seem to be steadily gaining the upper hand regardless of the resources SAPS have to fight against crime. SAPS has also not kept pace with the technology criminals use to conduct their nefarious activities.
“Carjacking, residential and non- residential robberies remain high and are increasing in number every year. People fear sleeping in their own homes. This is unacceptable,” added Mr Mncwango.
“The IFP also call on to government to declare a firearm amnesty with no limitation on the process period, “added Mr Mncwango.
“New strategies are required in the fight against crime in Gauteng, Western Cape, KZN and Mpumalanga, as these areas remain infested with criminal activity with seemingly little or no progress being made,” concluded Mr Mncwango.
