Note to editors: IFP Premier Campaign Candidate, Velenkosini Hlabisa addressed residents of Ekuvukeni in KwaZulu-Natal, these are extracts of his remarks to the community.
The IFP’s KZN Premier Candidate, Velenkosini Hlabisa was today invited by community leaders in Ekuvukeni to address their concerns after rejecting all visits by major political parties in the province.
The community of Ekuvukeni is suffering at the hands of an uncaring, unstable and destructive ANC run government in KwaZulu-Natal.
For many years, residents of Ekuvukeni has expressed their dissatisfaction with the ANC. They pledge there to support the IFP as the only reasonable, responsive, constructive and values-orientated party in the province, to assist in their daily plight for survival and dignified service delivery.
Earlier this year, services in Ekuvukeni came to a standstill in a protest over the provision of water. Pupils in the township did not attend school while SASSA offices were burnt down. Residents have protested against the lack of water in the area, and demanded urgent intervention by the ANC run – uThukela District Municipality, which is responsible for the supply of water.
Our message to the residents of Ekuvukeni is one which is very clear, do not vote for the ANC on the 8th of May and then protest the next day, vote out the ANC and hold a newly elected government, led by the IFP to account.
We will show you how service delivery works, we will show you how the IFP’s leadership is capable and able to change the lives of residents in Ekuvukeni.
We’ve got a story to tell on delivery, we have a trusted track record of governance expertise and we can deliver this for you. Our Manifesto is a clear plan for KwaZulu-Natal.
Your vote is the only way in which you can send a clear message to the ANC that your concerns must never fall on deaf ears. You have been ignored for too long under an uncaring administration right here in uThukela.
The IFP has 12 municipalities which we govern in KZN, you will never see protests in these municipalities because where we govern, we ensure that we take care of our people.
We can do this for you too. The only hope in ensuring you get a government you deserve is by voting for the IFP on election day. Don’t be misled by other parties selling you sweet lies. You know the IFP, you know our leaders are corruption-free, they are trusted and they will deliver change to your community.
I have noted all your concerns raised, I have gone door to door and I will ensure that when I am elected Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, that in my first 100 days I will clean up the poor administration in the uThukela District. Your fight for better services is my priority.
Leaders, comrades, the power is in your hands to change government here in KwaZulu-Natal, get out to vote next week Wednesday and vote IFP.
