The Inkatha Freedom Party is saddened about the death of Gonondo Kheswa of Empilisweni in Thokoza, Gauteng who was a learner at Tswarogang primary school. The boy was electrocuted to death by illegal connections this past weekend.

IFP spokesperson on Human Settlement Mr KP Sithole, MP said “The death of an 11 year old boy is very tragic and follows many fatal incidents that had occurred in the informal settlements around the country over the years caused by these illegal connections. The victims of illegal electricity connections are mostly the children”.

“As the IFP we call on government not to turn a blind eye on this. Government must make its business to ensure that there are no electricity cables lying in the streets because they are posing a huge danger to the communities”, added Mr Sithole.

“Informal settlements are unsafe and must be replaced with formal settlement housing urgently, failing which we are going to see more lives being lost”, concluded Mr Sithole.
