Gupta “State Capture” Tip of Iceberg

Feb 1, 2018 | Press Releases

The IFP says the Judicial Commission to be led by Judge Zondo into the Gupta-related State Capture allegations will deal with the tip of the iceberg. The party says another Commission probing the nature and extent of the corruption web must be urgently instituted if President Cyril Ramaphosa’s renewal commitment is to bear fruits. The party said this in a statement issued today, in reaction to a statement presented by former PRASA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Lucky Montana, at the enquiry led by the Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises. IFP Deputy National Spokesperson, Joshua Mazibuko stated that:

“Revelations made by former PRASA Chief Executive Officer Mr. Lucky Montana, at the enquiry led by Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises on 30 January 2018 are shocking to say the least. If they are true indeed, they reveal what seems to have escaped the majority of South Africans, that the GUPTA-related “State Capture” allegations are just a tip of the iceberg. Mr. Montana’s presentation reveals the depth of the corruption cancer which has ravaged even the highest echelons of the ruling ANC.

“True or false, Montana’s allegations are very serious to be ignored. They challenge the newly-elected President of the ANC who is also Deputy President of South Africa to urgently consider the constitution of yet another commission that will be broader in probing the extent and damage the cancer of corruption and fraud have ravaged the South African state. History may come to judge President Ramaphosa’s commitment to renewal – which the IFP fully supports – on whether or not he musters enough courage to go deeper into probing corruption and fraud including dissecting his very own ruling-ANC.

“Voices which have recently been calling for the broadening of the scope of Judge Zondo’s Commission may have been driven by not so honest motives. But on the strength of what Montana told the Parliamentary enquiry, they may have a strong case. Indeed South Africa requires a thorough cleansing if she is to recuperate and be able to fulfil the aspirations of millions of the poor and downtrodden.”
