Harry Gwala District Mayor Campaigns With Elecricity For KZN Best Mayor Position

Oct 14, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP has raised grave concerns about ANC Mayor, Mluleki Ndobe of Harry Gwala District who is promising 25 winning residents that they will get R6000 worth of electricity if they vote for him as the Best Performing Mayor in KZN.

“According to the advert published in the newspapers a total of 25 voters will stand a chance of winning R6000 worth of electricity and it contains the photos of projects claimed to be delivered to communities. We see this as the abuse of state resources for cheap politics just for the mayor to be seen as a hard working person when he is not worthy of the title. We are sick and tired of politicians who want to get credit by using state resources and fooling people that they are taking care of them while they blackmail them using state resources,” said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala.

“Many people of the Harry Gwala District in areas like Bhobhobho and Ndonyane don’t have electricity but now just because the mayor wants votes there are means to make electricity available. This begs a question of why people are not getting electricity if the mayor has powers to give out electricity when he needs votes. Where will the money come from for this electricity? ANC mayors must stop using our people as tools to garner votes and boost their own selfish egos,” continued Mr Gwala.

“We will call on the MEC of Cogta, Nomusa Dube Ncube to investigate this matter because we are convinced that the money for this so called electricity does not come from the mayor’s pocket but from tax payer’s money. We want to know if the mayor paid for the advertisements from his own private funds. If the adverts were paid for from public funds, it is an abuse of tax payer’s money and the mayor must be held accountable. We cannot allow the situation where the ANC is using public funds to portray itself in the eyes of the public as a caring political party,” concluded Mr Gwala.
