IFP Applauds Mine-Workers’ Rescue

Feb 2, 2018 | Press Releases

The IFP has expressed its jubilation and gratitude for the rescue of all Sibanye-Stillwater Gold’s Beatrix Mine in the Free State who have been trapped underground since Wednesday night. Last night the party issued a statement voicing its concern over the fact that about 955 of these miners were still underground.

In a statement released this morning following the news of their rescue, IFP Deputy National Spokesperson Joshua Mazibuko said the IFP is “excited at the news that all mine-workers of Sibanye-Stillwater Gold’s Beatrix Mine have been rescued. We were deeply concerned by what seemed to be an approaching crisis since the miners had been underground since Wednesday night. But we are now relieved and wish to thank mine-owners and all who played a role in ensuring the rescue of the miners.

“We however wish to urge mine-owners to always put the health and lives of mine-workers high in their priority list because, with current unpredictable weather conditions, mining has become one of risky jobs to engage in.”
