IFP Boycotts eThekwini Metro Meeting

Jun 28, 2017 | Press Releases

In its Caucus meeting held today, the IFP resolved to boycott tomorrow’s sitting of eThekwini Metro Council, accusing the ruling ANC of being disorganized and disrespectful of other political parties. This emanated from the decision by the Municipality to bring forward tomorrow a Municipal sitting that was scheduled for Thursday. IFP Exco Member Councilor Mduduzi Nkosi, in a statement issued today after the Caucus meeting said:

“As IFP Caucus we took a resolution to boycott tomorrow’s sitting of the eThekwini Council because we are sick-and-tired of being ANC push-overs and being party to ANC disorganization. According to schedule, the Council was supposed to sit on Thursday (29 June 2017). However just out of the blue, yesterday afternoon we received text-messages from the Speaker’s Office indicating that that they had resolved to bring the Thursday meeting forward to Wednesday (28 June 2017). The reason forwarded was that the ANC will not be available on Thursday. Never has it happened that the Council is postponed when other parties have their activities.

“Secondly, this is not the first time that the ANC leadership just decides to cancel Council meetings at short notice without valid reasons. This is disrespectful of other parties; we cannot accept.”
