IFP: Call For The Investigation into the Failed Uptake of Masibumbaneni Poultry Project

Jun 2, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP calls for a thorough investigation into the failed uptake of the R1 million Masibumbaneni Poultry Project in Ward 9, in the Mhlumayo Area in Mnambithi.

“I visited this project after the concerns I received from community members that funding was allocated in 2012 for this project but till today nothing has happened. A small pile of bricks and poles arrived but no structure has been erected to date. This is one of the province’s biggest “white elephant ” projects. Some municipal officials are willing to testify in this matter as they are aware of the funds allocated for the project,” said IFP MPL, Mrs Ncamisile Nkwanyana.

“Large amounts of taxpayer’s money was invested in this project by the Department of Local Economic Development in Mnambithi Municipality, which is now going down the drain. If members of this project enquire about funding they are told by the municipality that there is no money for this project while funds were allocated a long time ago. This failed project stinks of corruption,” continued Mrs Nkwanyana.

“It’s absolutely outrageous that four years after the municipality gave funds for the project, it still lies incomplete with no promise of it ever getting off the ground. It is just another demonstration of an ANC-led municipality’s failure to ever follow through on promises made. I call on the MEC of COGTA to do a full investigation into this failed poultry project and to make examples of those involved by ensuring that they are held accountable,”
concluded Mrs Nkwanyana.

The IFP demands that the Mnambithi Municipality must account for the allocated funds for this project without any further delay.
