IFP: Call for a Skills Audit at Msunduzi Municipality

Apr 16, 2018 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party demands that a skills audit must be conducted at Msunduzi Municipality to see if the municipality has the right people placed in the right positions after a senior official at Msunduzi Municipality has allegedly been caught on an audio recording giving instruction to manipulate job interview scores.

The manipulation is meant to secure a job for a candidate favoured by a senior politician in the municipality.

“The IFP strongly believes that a skills audit must conducted in order to root out officials who are holding back this municipality from providing services to the people. The Msunduzi Municipality has been reported as most dysfunctional municipality in the province.

These allegations put the competency of many of the municipality’s staff into question. Cadre deployment is used by the ANC to reward those that are loyal to the cause; to then be appointed in positions at all levels in the society and all institutions of government in the country,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Princess Phumzile Buthelezi MPL.

“The IFP calls for an end to nepotism, abuse of public power and neglect of rule of law. Every effort must be made to ensure that the appointment and promotion processes are open, transparent and impartial. Where allegations are found to be true, timely and appropriate action must be taken by top leadership to rectify the situation,” continued Princess Buthelezi.

“We call upon the KZN MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube to conduct an in-depth investigation of these issues of accountability and ethical behaviour pertaining to local government. Above that, we also believe that an inquiry into this matter is needed in order to give confidence to the Msunduzi residents that the MEC is acting above board,” concluded Princess Buthelezi.

The IFP demands that all those who are allegedly to be involved in this matter must be suspended with immediate effect and if found guilty they must be fired.
