The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu-Natal has noted that the eDumbe local municipality is in shambles after the municipality failed to meet its budget and the Mayor is at the ANC Policy conference using the municipality’s car.
“Problems at this municipality have been on-going and now it has lost 6 of its 14 vehicles, employees’s pension and medical aid scheme payments are not being cleared and payment of salaries is not assured. Yesterday the office telephone and other equipment were taken away and as a result the municipal offices are not functioning as they should,” said the IFP Executive Councilor in eDumbe Municipality, Nyanga Ndlangamandla.
“The ANC is running this municipality like a spaza shop. It has been a long time since a proper council meeting took place and even when it does, it does not finish peacefully because the ANC pushes its own agenda without consultation with other parties. They appointed their own municipal manager who we declined in the EXCO as the opposition parties and he is implementing polices unilaterally. He has started to change the municipal organogram and is employing unqualified ANC members to run the municipal offices. These cadres are being appointed without the posts being advertised. Municipal cars and other equipment are being used for ANC party activities,” continued Cllr Ndlangamandla.
“We have been complaining about this but the ANC is refusing to take note of our concerns because they don’t want the rot to be exposed. The corruption taking place here will put this municipality under administration. As the IFP we believe that the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs under MEC Nomsa Dube Ncube needs to intervene before things become even worse as this municipality is close to losing its electricity supply,” concluded Cllr Ndlangamandla.
