IFP Calls For Urgent Intervention In Workers Strike At KZN State Mortuary

Nov 24, 2016 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party calls on the KZN MEC of Health, Dr Sbongiseni Dhlomo to urgently intervene in the workers strike at the KZN Provincial mortuary in Gale Street, Durban.

“Urgent intervention is imperative because it is unacceptable for family members to wait for the bodies of their deceased relatives. It is blatantly clear that the Department of Health has failed to deal with and remedy the situation as it is not for the first time that mortuary workers have gone on strike,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Health, Mrs Ncamisile Nkwanyana MPL.

“The MEC must ensure that the identification of bodies continues as many people have made funeral arrangements for the weekend. Others are still doing funeral arrangements but this situation has resulted in unnecessary inconvenience and emotional distress for the families,” continued Mrs Nkwanyana.

“We urge the MEC to listen to workers’ grievances and solve them in order to avoid this strike to happen again. Working conditions must be improved without
any further delay”, Concluded Mrs Nkwanyana.
