On behalf of the IFP, I wish to extend a hearty congratulations to well-known SABC Journalist Lukhanyo Calata and his wife, Abigail Calata on publishing his book “My Father Died for this”.
A poignant and inspiring journey into the history of a remarkable family that traces the ANC’s struggle beginning with treason trialist and Secretary-General Canon James Calata.
I have come to know Lukhanyo and his wife in the media operations of the public broadcaster and I wish him and his wife well on this emotional journey in digging deep into his inspirational history. It is a story that must be retold.
Calata discovers the life of the father he never knew: Fort Calata, one of the ‘Cradock Four’ who were murdered by agents of the apartheid state in 1985.
Lukhanyo and his wife are setting an example for many young people to look into their ancestry and to draw from the lessons learnt of those who came before us.
In celebrating our democracy we must never forget those who have sacrificed their lives in the struggle so that we can enjoy freedom today.
