IFP Conveys Condolences to Families of Maidens Lost in KZN Accident

Aug 11, 2019 | Press Releases

The IFP has expressed shock and sadness following the death of six young women, who were attending a preparatory event in the lead-up to the annual reed dance, which will take place in Nongoma next month.

The six young maidens died and nine others were injured, when a minibus taxi crashed and caught alight on Saturday night, in Pomeroy, in the vicinity of Greytown, when it is alleged that the driver of the minibus taxi lost control of the vehicle.

“We are saddened by the incident which claimed the lives of six young women, who still had a bright future ahead of them. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this difficult time. May they find solace in God,” said IFP National Spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa.

“Far too many lives are being lost on South Africa’s roads. We urge drivers to exercise caution at all times, especially when they carry groups of people, more so when it is young people.

“We also call on the Department of Transport to increase road safety checks to ensure that all vehicles that travel KwaZulu Natal’s roads, and nationally, are roadworthy and that their drivers are competent, in order to avoid incidents like these happening time and time again,” Hlengwa added.
