IFP: Death Of Rhythm City Actor Calls For Concerted Action To Eradicate Crime

Aug 3, 2017 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party says it is high time now for government and the community at large to work together to eradicate the high rate of crime following the death of a Rhythm City actor, Dumi Masilela known as Sfiso who died after being shot during an attempted hijacking on Wednesday night.

“The constant reports of gun-related crimes and violence in this country calls for urgent action. I urge police management to be creative and do something tangible to get illegal guns off the streets. This is an issue that we must hold no punches about and we must ensure that illegal guns are found and destroyed.

Often community members know who are in possession of illegal guns, those individuals who know these people they must report them to the police. The IFP calls on all responsible and honest police personnel to protect the identities of those who report the presence of illegal guns in their communities. We are calling for a task team dedicated to eradicating all illegal guns from our streets,” said IFP Provincial Spokesperson on Community Safety and Liaison and IFP National Chairperson Mr Blessed Gwala.

“We don’t need much more resources than we have now, nothing more than just the will and to organise ourselves and to organise the police force to go after the illegal guns.

I think we really need better intelligence on the ground and for the police to be able to act on that information expeditiously and for them to really get serious about breaking up the so called gangs and gang mentality.

We urge the police to work around the clock to apprehend the killers of Dumi Masilela. His murder must be a motivation to the police in also apprehending the killers of Senzo Meyiwa whose identities are still unknown and the public are still waiting for answers,” conclude Mr Gwala.

The IFP would like to send its heartfelt condolences to the Masilela family, friends and colleagues at Rhythm City. It is indeed saddening to learn that our own celebrated young legend in the field of arts and culture‚ has departed. The industry has lost one of its much loved and talented actors and the country is poorer without him.
