The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is delighted to announce that three IFP Women’s Brigade (IFPWB) members have been nominated for the 2023 Sebenza Women Awards, in the “Women Leader in Government”, “Women Leader in Local Government” and “Youngest Female Leader in Government” categories. The IFP-led uMlalazi and Zululand Municipalities are also nominees, in the “Best Performing Municipality in Gender Equality” category.
Now in its fifth year, the prestigious Sebenza Women Awards’ Ceremony will take place on Friday, 6 October 2023, at the Durban ICC. The Awards focus on rewarding women’s excellence and showcasing their brilliance, strength, and achievements.
The IFP nominees for the “Women Leader in Government” category are Hon. Princess Phumzile Buthelezi MPL, who serves as an IFP Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, as well as Chairperson of the IFPWB. The second nominee in this category, Cllr QT Xulu, is the Mayor of uMlalazi Municipality, and also serves as National Secretary of the IFPWB. The final nominee, Ms Nonkululeko Maphisa, is Director for Corporate Services at the Emadlangeni Local Municipality, as well as a member of the IFPWB, and was nominated in two categories: “Women Leader in Local Government” and “Youngest Female Leader in Government”.
The IFP would like to extend congratulations to all three nominees – not only on their nominations, but on their lifelong dedication to the service of their communities, and for following the example set by IFP Founder and President Emeritus, the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
As a Party, we are proud of your achievements, and hope that you will continue to be an inspiration to all the women and girls who cross paths with you.
We are also delighted that uMlalazi and Zululand Municipalities have been recognised for being on the forefront of supporting gender equality.
Congratulations to all our nominees – you are all winners in our eyes!
