The Inkatha Freedom Party demands that the KZN MEC of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo must provide a clear time frame of appointing a cleaning company at Siyakhathala Clinic in Mvunyane, Mondlo. Nurses are being forced to clean the clinic to make up for a lack of full-time cleaners, it has been claimed.
“The Department’s response in this matter is that the cleaning company will be appointed soon without specifying a clear time frame of whether it would be this week or next month or so. This is yet another public stunt by the department’s spin doctors aimed at creating confusion as if this matter will be addressed urgently.
The Department is just putting us in a wait and see kind situation of how things will unfold before worrying about the possible impact of this situation on the patients who have to wait for long hours while the nurses are busy cleaning,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Health, Mrs Ncamisile Nkwanyana MPL.
“It is disgusting that nurses at Siyakhathala Clinic have to become cleaners due to cleaning staff shortage while cleanliness at the clinic leaves much to be desired. This is evidence that the Department of Health is continuing to blunder at various levels.
We are extremely critical of the manner in which the Department of Health is managing the challenges facing our public hospitals and for its failure to deliver on the promises that were made by the MEC during his Budget speech when he promised that he will provide better healthcare to all people. The plight of the patients must be addressed urgently.” continued Mrs Nkwanyana.
“We reiterate that we have no faith in the provincial department to address this emergency adequately or rapidly. We demand urgent intervention by Premier Willies Mchunu to fix the KwaZulu-Natal health system,” concluded Mrs Nkwanyana.
