IFP Demands Answers About the R3 Million Spent on Senzo Meyiwa’s Funeral

Feb 25, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal demands answers from the Office of the KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu about R3 million spent on Senzo Meyiwa’s funeral.

“We want to state at the outset that we are not contesting the dignity of the funeral accorded to Mr Meyiwa but we want know what process was used in selecting companies involved in organising the funeral. We want to know if proper procedures were followed in awarding the following contracts: the R1.2m catering contract awarded to Solesa Production, which once listed President Jacob Zuma’s cousin, Deebo Mzobe as a director, the contract to Soundrite for R599 405 to provide infrastructure, the contract to Courtesy Marketing for R190 500 for banners and Sunsun Investments was paid R12 118.50 to provide lanyards. All these questions must be answered because tax payers’ money was spent,” said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala, MPL.

“We are convinced that certain government officials AND politicians benefited from Senzo Meyiwa’s funeral although his family benefitted nothing besides flowers and visits paid by high profile dignitaries. Corruption is rife in government therefore proper explanations must be provided. We demand that if there is no corruption involved in this matter, the Office of the Premier must furnish us with the detailed reports containing the names of other companies who submitted their tender documents to be considered in organising Senzo Meyiwa’s funeral,” concluded Mr Gwala.

The IFP further demands to know what progress has been made in the construction of the KZN International Training Centre and Football Academy to be named after the late Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates Captain Senzo Meyiwa which was announced by the Premier during the funeral service of this prolific goalkeeper at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
