In line with the principles of good governance, the IFP in KwaZulu Natal is calling upon the ANC to give a clear commitment with a timeframe of when the Mayor of Newcastle Municipality, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, will vacate his position. This comes after Mahlaba appeared in the Madadeni Magistrates court in connection with his murder charges relating to the death of ANCYL Leader Wandile Ngubeni in 2016.
“We call upon Mayor Mahlaba to resign and stop playing hide and seek politics on matters of corruption. If this does not happen, it will be interpreted as measures aimed at diverting attention away from his real issues of crime. It is indeed a responsibility of every patriotic citizen to eradicate and expose corruption wherever it rears its ugly head,” said Hlabisa.
This comes after Mahlaba threatened to expose his ANC comrades who have continuously embezzled municipal funds for years in that municipality.
“The IFP has been complaining about corruption for very long in that municipality. We now feel vindicated that an ANC member and mayor is confirming our claims of many years,” continued Hlabisa.
“The IFP hopes that the newly appointed MEC for Cogta in KZN will immediately investigate these allegations of corruption in the Newcastle Municipality. This will show that the newly installed ANC administration of KwaZulu Natal is determined to walk the talk on the commitments recently made by Premier Zikalala on fighting corruption.” concluded Hlabisa
