The IFP has learnt with disgust that residents of Lovu Transit Camp in Ward 109, eThekwini Municipality were woken up at about 2am today (30/01/20) by political hoodlums and forced to toyi-toyi in the cold. Their sin was that yesterday (29/01/20) they welcomed into their area two IFP Members of KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature, Hon. Thokozile Gumede and I (Joshua Mazibuko) as we were on an oversight visit. And indeed, we witnessed the squalid conditions in which they are living.
In fact, during our engagements with them yesterday, the residents expressed that they were afraid of speaking to us in public, lest they are reported to their political bosses who will then take them to task for welcoming us.
The IFP is shocked and disgusted to learn that at this point in our democratic dispensation, we still have political hoodlums who hold communities hostage in pursuit of the politics of harassment, intolerance and no-go areas.
We want them to know that, as long as the people of this Province mandate us to work for them, we will not be intimidated into neglecting suffering communities regardless of where they are, nor will we succumb to political bullying tactics.
