The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) today made a donation of R250 000 to Gift of the Givers. The donation was handed over by IFP President, Velenkosini Hlabisa, to assist with disaster relief efforts in KwaZulu-Natal. The hand-over occurred during a visit by an IFP leadership delegation to eThekwini, to inspect areas devastated by the recent floods.
Gift of the Givers is a world-class disaster response NGO, and the largest of its kind of African origin on the African continent. They are experienced and equipped to provide the type of specialised support required by those in need in KZN.
This donation is in addition to the support the IFP is already providing in various areas in Durban, where those who have been left destitute are currently being housed.
Whilst IFP Founder and President Emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, was unable to join the delegation, he is in full support of all efforts made by the IFP to assist the people of KZN. The assistance being provided by the IFP is consistent with his teachings, and the IFP values of solidarity and unity in diversity. The delegation also conveyed Prince Buthelezi’s sincere condolences to all of the bereaved families they visited.
The IFP would like to take this opportunity to issue a clarion call to all who have means: please make donations or provide material support to our fellow South Africans in KZN, who were caught unawares by these floods and are now trying to rebuild their lives.
We would again like to offer the IFP’s deepest condolences to the families, friends, and neighbours of all of those who have lost loved ones, as well as the communities that now find themselves in mourning.
The IFP’s leadership is committed to remaining on the ground during this crisis, to provide ongoing support to communities. Further interventions will be identified and announced in the coming days.
