The IFP in Gauteng is honoured to congratulate the Gauteng matric class of 2019 for their commendable performance in the 2019 national matric results.
We are indeed proud of the work that the Gauteng Department of Education has been doing and therefore not surprised that though Gauteng lost the top performing province to the Free State, it still managed to produce the highest number of bachelor passes and the best performing districts.
In the mood of this celebration, the IFP in the province is nonetheless convinced that there is a need for an improved concerted effort from the parents, teachers, the provincial department of education and the community at large to make our schools safe havens for teaching and learning.
The community must actively participate in protecting our schools against hooligans who are hell bent on burning them down and making mockery of our education system.
Moreover, the teachers unions have a responsibility to protect and restore the dignity and professionalism that the teaching profession used to be synonymous with.
As the IFP we will continue to inculcate the culture of ubuntu-botho which promotes respect for human dignity in order to deal among others with the barbaric culture of physically attacking teachers in our school premises. It cannot be that we celebrate matric results while throughout the year teachers are subjected to high levels of daily stresses while in the line of duty.
