IFP Horrified by Murder of uMlazi Prosecutor

Dec 16, 2021 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is horrified by the murder of a prosecutor outside the uMlazi Magistrate’s Court and views this act as an attack on South Africa’s justice system, and the members of the legal community.

For several years, the IFP has warned against actions that undermine the country’s judicial system, and the apparent disrespect for the legal system. Statistics reveal an escalation in the assassination of attorneys, prosecutors, and magistrates. This does not only pose a very serious threat to judicial system but also to the stability of the country. Our country is on the verge of lawlessness if incidents such as these are not prevented.

It is of great concern that in the past few months we have witnessed the escalation of these heinous acts. Just two months ago, a high-profile forensic attorney was gunned down in La Lucia, Durban North, while Umhlanga attorney, Theasen Pillay, was found in his apartment, allegedly stabbed to death.

We call upon the long arm of the law to leave no stone unturned with this latest murder, and other related cases. We trust that law enforcement will do everything in their power to bring the heartless killers to book, and that heavy sentences will be handed down.
