The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is deeply saddened by the passing of its devoted member, Councillor Musawenkosi Qhina Mkhwanazi. Mkhwanazi was a former Mayor of Inkosi Mtubatuba Municipality and, at the time of his passing, served on the IFP KZN Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) as the Provincial Treasurer. He was also the IFP Ward 16 Councillor in Inkosi Mtubatuba Municipality. Mkhwanazi dedicated over 20 years of his life to serving as a hardworking and committed councillor.

According to a statement from the family, Cllr Mkhwanazi passed away in the early hours of this morning while in hospital, following an illness.

Mkhwanazi’s passing is not only a profound loss to his family but also to the entire IFP and the people of KwaZulu-Natal, whom he served with unwavering dedication, commitment, and selflessness.

He will also be remembered for his pride and love of Zulu culture. His admiration for his heritage was evident on special occasions when he would proudly wear traditional Zulu attire, carrying the stick, spear, and shield. He was dedicated to educating young boys and men about Zulu culture and hymns (Amahubo kaZulu).

Cllr Mkhwanazi’s deep love for the Zulu nation made him a reliable and trusted pillar to the late Zulu King Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu and the late Zulu Prime Minister, Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi. Despite his close ties to the late Zulu King and Prime Minister, he remained kind and humble.

Cllr Mkhwanazi also played a significant role in local economic development, particularly in the Inkosi Mtubatuba area. He created educational and learning opportunities for the local youth. A devoted leader within the IFP, he dedicated his time and energy to campaigning across the province, contributing to the party’s strong position in the current government.

His contributions to the struggle of the people of this province are vividly recorded in the history books, and his legacy will be passed down to future generations.

Mkhwanazi was not only towering in stature but also in his actions, embodying a heart filled with humility and kindness. The IFP in KZN extends its deepest condolences to the Mkhwanazi family and the entire Mkhwanazi nation in Inkosi Mtubatuba.
