On behalf of the IFP KZN Caucus in the KZN Legislature, the Whippery, all Honourable Members of the IFP Caucus, and members of our support staff, I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the Buthelezi family, His Majesty the King, the Zulu Royal Family, as well as Archbishop Thabo Makgoba and the Anglican Church, on the passing of the Founder and President Emeritus of the Inkatha Freedom Party and Traditional Prime Minister to the AmaZulu King and Nation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.
As African culture says, a giant tree has fallen. We bow our heads in sorrow and raise our hands to the sky as we thank God Almighty for having given us the gift of Prince Buthelezi.
Prince Buthelezi needs no introduction. South Africa has lost a great man and an elder statesman. He was a dedicated and principled person. I worked with Prince Buthelezi from a tender age until his passing – in the same way my grand uncle, Sibabi ka Mgqibelo Gwala, worked with the Prince and Inkosi Mathole Buthelezi, as well as my great-great grandfather, Khilane Gwala, who served under Inkosi Mnyamana ka Ngqengelele Buthelezi.
Prince Buthelezi served the Zulu Monarchy and Nation as Traditional Prime Minister since 1954. He remained fully committed to his responsibility as Traditional Prime Minister until the end of his life.
He was indeed an asset to the nation. I pray that God Almighty will give us the strength to soldier on in this most trying and dark moment for our country.
May his soul rest in eternal and everlasting peace.
