IFP KZN Chairperson and Premier Candidate Condemns Spate of Killings of Politicians

Feb 3, 2024 | Press Releases

The IFP in KwaZulu-Natal strongly condemns the alarming increase in the targeted killings of politicians, ahead of this year’s general elections.

This comes in the wake of the tragic murder of the IFP Interim Secretary, Mthokozisi “Nguqunguqu” Sithole, at Mbabazane Constituency, Estcourt, in the Inkosi Langalibalele Municipality.

Sithole, a dedicated leader, was brutally murdered last Saturday in his hometown of Weenen, located in the northern part of the province.

This reprehensible act is a direct attack on our democratic values.

The IFP in KZN demands that law enforcement agencies leave no stone unturned in decisively dealing with this matter, ensuring that the perpetrators responsible for this heinous crime are apprehended and swiftly brought to justice.

The IFP recognises the need for unity and tolerance among fellow politicians, community members, and all stakeholders in society. In the face of this tragedy, we call upon citizens who may have witnessed the incident to courageously step forward and provide any relevant information to the police.

Cooperation from the community is essential to assisting law enforcement in their efforts to bring those responsible to account.

The loss of Mr. Sithole is not only a painful to his family but the loss has been deeply felt by the entire community of Mbabazane and the IFP as a whole.

His untimely demise is particularly painful as we collectively strive to liberate this province from the grips of the current administration’s corruption and arrogance.

As we mourn the loss of a dedicated leader, the IFP remains resolute in its commitment to fostering a political environment that values the principles of democracy, justice, and unity.

The party urges all political stakeholders to join hands in condemning violence and promoting a peaceful electoral process.

The IFP in KZN remains undeterred in its pursuit of a better and safer future for the people of KwaZulu-Natal.

We stand united against violence and intimidation, vowing to honour the memory of Mthokozisi Sithole by continuing our mission to build a prosperous and democratic society.
