The IFP, as the Official Opposition in the KZN Legislature, calls upon the KZN Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, to release an investigation report into the KZN school feeding scheme debacle, which saw many children going hungry in April.
The incompetence of the ANC-led KZN provincial government, as well as their lack of ubuntu and a laissez-faire attitude, resulted in many learners in KZN being left to starve.
In May, while addressing Members of the KZN Provincial Legislature during a Special Sitting to mark Africa Day, KZN Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, said the government had instituted an investigation into the matter, after schoolchildren went without food for days in April.
It is now almost four months later and the Premier has said nothing on this matter or provided an update on the progress that has been made. She must break her silence. We challenge her to release the report – knowing full well that she tends to keep forensic investigation reports under wraps to protect comrades who might be implicated.
The IFP continues to maintain that there must be consequence management and that the KZN MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer, must be held accountable for this debacle.
For the first time in history, children in KZN were left to starve due to uncaring and heartless ANC leaders. During the tenure of the erstwhile KwaZulu government, there was not a single day where learners were left without food.
When the ANC came into power, it promised people a better life for all. This has not happened. We wonder what the innocent black child did to warrant being humiliated and punished by starvation.
In addition, we challenge the Premier to provide proof that the Pacina Retail contract has been terminated. There must be no secrecy on this matter, as the public deserve to know the truth.
