The Mayor of the Zululand District Municipality (ZDM), Mr Thulasizwe Buthelezi, today welcomed KZN COGTA’s announcement that the department would be launching an investigation into maladministration, fraud and corruption at ZDM.
“The IFP has always insisted that a forensic investigation be conducted at ZDM. The IFP inherited a R33 million deficit when it came into power in August 2016. This deficit was as a result of the NFP/ANC Coalition of corruption that took place between 2011 and 2016,” said Mayor Buthelezi.
“As a result of this, COGTA launched an investigation into ZDM which covered the period 2011 – 2016. We are yet to receive the findings of that report. We welcome COGTA’s latest announcement that they are launching a second investigation into ZDM, and we await the terms of reference and scope with anticipation,” remarked Mayor Buthelezi.
“We are proud that the IFP had been able to turn around a dysfunctional and bankrupt municipality into service-delivery machine of clean governance and transparency. We will continue to cut down expenditure on non-core items such as the hiring of water tankers, and will increase our capacity to enhance revenue through our targeted strategies,” concluded Mayor Buthelezi.
