IFP President Hlabisa Discourages Grade 12 Pens Down Celebrations

Dec 8, 2020 | Press Releases

The IFP President, Honourable Velenkosini Hlabisa, has discouraged pens down celebrations amongst Grade 12 learners, as this trend might exacerbate the uncontrollable spread of Covid-19.

President Hlabisa, who earlier on today donated approximately 1000 sanitary towels to uMtapo High School learners in Lindelani, North of Durban, encouraged learners to behave and celebrate the festive season responsibly. He said that the 2020 matric class will always be remembered for its endurance in times when the Covid-19 pandemic was raging. He commended teachers for their dedication in building the nation’s future.

He told the learners that IFP is disappointed by the decision of the Department of Education on the re-write of Maths P2 and Physical Science P2.

He said his prayers were that the Court should stand on the side of learners who had no access to the leaked papers.

In the same breath, he advised learners not to boycott the process of re-writing these papers, should the court ruling take the decision that they must sit for another examination.

President Hlabisa, who was accompanied by the first lady, Mrs Thandeka Hlabisa, encouraged the learners to stay focussed and persevere through challenges. Earlier this year, President Hlabisa visited three eThekwini High Schools, which are: Mandlenkosi High School, uMbambangwe High School and uMtapo High School. He pledged a R20 000 prize for each top achieving learner in these three high schools.

He alluded to the fact that the IFP keeps its promises, as per President Emeritus Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s teachings. The sanitary pads were promised to female learners earlier in the year, when he delivered 200 pairs of school shoes to the school.

UMtapo High School Principal, Mr Vusimuzi Nxumalo, commended IFP’s gesture as per its leadership’s promise.
