IFP Raises Concerns About The New DG’s Track Record

Aug 1, 2017 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party notes the appointment of Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize as a new DG in KwaZulu-Natal as from the 1st August 2017

“While we welcome this announcement by Premier Willies Mchunu we must raise our concern with regard to the dark cloud that hang over the head of Dr Mkhize. We are aware that when she was the DG in Mpumalanga she had authorised memorial services for former President Mandela in 2013 which cost the province R70 million. After National Treasury filed the complaint with regard to a violation of procurement procedures, the Hawks began an investigation.

We would also like to know why Dr Mkhize left Mpumalanga Province before her contract could end and while Premier David Mabuza was on sick leave. It would appear that Dr Mkhize arrives in KwaZulu-Natal with many unanswered questions surrounding her tenure as a Director General in Mpumalanga,” said Mr Blessed Gwala, IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature MPL.

“The discrepancies around the contract to organise the memorial services that was awarded to Carol Bouwer Productions was also reported to the office of the then Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela. We call on the Hawks and the Public Protector’s office to expedite the investigations and release a report before KZN falls prey to even more unauthorised and irregular expenditures,” concluded Mr Gwala.
