On behalf of the Buthelezi family and the IFP, I wish to express appreciation for the many requests we have received to visit the IFP Founder and President Emeritus, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi MP, on this special day of his 92nd birthday.
While we are grateful that so many friends would like to celebrate with him, we must request that he be allowed to spend this day with his three children. Please be advised that no arrangements have been made to receive guests and there will not be any festivities at KwaPhindangene.
Unfortunately this is necessitated by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. At this stage, social gatherings still create a high risk of infection, which we would wish to avoid at all costs.
We therefore ask that people not come to KwaPhindangene, but rather express their birthday wishes by recommitting to the fight against Covid-19 through social distancing, the diligent wearing of masks and frequent washing of hands.
Prince Buthelezi and his three children intend spending time in prayer together and will then mark his birthday with lunch. While there cannot be a full celebration this year, our hearts are full of gratitude for the good wishes being sent from a distance.
