IFP Shocked By The Sudden Passing Away Of Tamil Songstress, Rosy Govender

Apr 25, 2017 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party is deeply saddened by the sudden passing away of the talented Tamil singer and songwriter, Ms Rosy Govender.

“We are very shocked by the news that one of South Africa’s most talented Tamil singer who entertained the community for more than four decades was called to rest after a short illness. Known as the Nightingale of Tamil music in our country, Srimathi Rosy Govender entertained audiences on stage and on radio in South Africa and in various concerts abroad. Such was the talent of this self-taught and versatile artist, that she has received many awards and accolades from numerous organisations.

Ms Govender’s humble nature endeared her to her thousands of fans and admirers wherever she performed and she used her talents to raise much-need funds for many religious and cultural organisations. She also willingly gave off her time to provide classes to aspiring singers and encouraged the youth to get involved in music and culture.

Her passing will surely leave a void in the Tamil music industry and her presence at concerts and eisteddfods will be sorely missed.

The IFP sends its condolences to the Govender Family and the Tamil community at large”, said IFP National Chairman and Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala MPL.
