IFP Supports Calls for Taiwan to Participate in the World Health Assembly

Apr 26, 2018 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party supports calls for Taiwan to be accorded full participatory status at the upcoming 2018 World Health Assembly [WHA] as well as full membership status at the World Health Organization [WHO].

IFP Chief Whip in Parliament, Mr Narend Singh, MP, said, ”The right to good health is a universal right, and yet Taiwan and its 23 million citizens are being prevented from participating in the 2018 World Health Assembly [WHA] meeting, and from full participation at the World Health Organization [WHO].

“Disease and virus knows no boundaries. In not being allowed to participate in these fora the Taiwanese people are being unnecessarily placed at risk as critical international health information is not being shared”

“In our collective fight against disease, it is imperative that the entire international community engages on these issues so as to minimize the possible negative effects of the next pandemic outbreak,”

“The Inkatha Freedom Party will continue to support all calls for the full recognition of Taiwan at WHO and WHA,” concluded Singh, MP.
