IFP to hold open-air prayer service this Sunday following spate of killings

Aug 14, 2020 | Press Releases

The IFP will hold an open-air prayer service this Sunday in the Mathisini area at uMthwalume, on the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal, following a spate of heinous crimes and killing of our women in the province. This follows yet another brutal killing of a woman in Eshowe on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, reported less than 24 hours after the discovery of two women’s bodies in the Mtwalume Mnafu area, on the south Coast of KwaZulu-Natal. A total of six women’s decomposed bodies have been found in this area in the space of less than eight months.

The body of the latest victim, Snethemba Zulu (27) of Samungu in Eshowe was found in this area on Wednesday morning, wrapped in a blanket, in a nearby open field. The primary suspect for her murder is her boyfriend, who allegedly reported the case at the Mandeni police station. It is believed that he premeditated his girlfriend’s murder, as he was on the route to the nearby bush and the victim’s body was discovered in a field on this same route. Her lifeless body was found with a deep wound under her left arm.

According to the family members, the deceased complained about the abusive relationship with her lover. The suspect is now on the run, after he absconded from the police cells.

The IFP Women’s Brigade condemns the ruthless killing of our women. We applaud the police for their swift reaction to the Mthwalume incident, as the suspect is being questioned about the killings but, in the same breath, we are concerned by the carelessness displayed by some police officers, as the Eshowe suspect allegedly escaped from the police station cells.
