IFP Welcomes Covid-19 Adjustment to Lockdown Level 2

May 30, 2021 | Press Releases

The IFP welcomes the announcement made by President Cyril Ramaphosa that Cabinet in conjunction with the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) have decided to adjust the Lockdown Level to Level 2 this evening.

This comes as infection rates have increased significantly in the country, in particular the four provinces announced by the President.

This move to Lockdown Level 2 will hopefully ensure that all South Africans strictly adhere to the Lockdown regulations and that greater awareness is raised as we try to prevent a third-wave from spreading to the five other provinces.

However, the vaccination drive in our country has been slow and we urge government to ramp up our efforts in getting more South Africans inoculated before matters become any worse.

Indeed, we remain concerned as regards the impact that these stricter measures may have on political parties’ ability to campaign for the upcoming Local Government Elections.

We have and always will believe that prevention is better than cure, and it is imperative that government together with business, organised labour, civil society and citizens work together to prevent the further spread of Covid-19.

We echo the sentiments expressed by the President and call on all South Africans to remain home where possible, to limit social gatherings, to adhere to the law in wearing a mask at all times and to practice good hygiene by sanitizing regularly.
