IFP Welcomes Interventions by President Hlabisa at the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs

Nov 11, 2024 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party congratulates its President, Honourable Velenkosini Hlabisa, Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, on gazetting the new by-law to develop and regulate township economies.

This milestone addresses the crisis of contaminated/expired food in local spaza shops, which tragically claimed young lives.

By prioritising South Africans’ safety, President Hlabisa upholds the IFP’s manifesto commitment to putting citizens first.

The new legislation will regulate foreign-owned businesses in townships, balance the citizens’ business rights with consumers’ rights to a safe environment and also empowers municipalities to set standards and provide support to township businesses.

The new bill will also ensure local government control through business permits and promote employment quotas for South African citizens and permanent residents.

We thank our President for his leadership in safeguarding our communities and also upholding, our party’s manifesto commitment.
