IFP Welcomes Return of Fully-fledged Durban July

Jul 3, 2022 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) welcomes the return of the spectators to the Durban July this year, following the event going virtual for the past two years, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing regulations.

Not only is the Race a highlight on the calendar for locals, but it brings an influx of tourists – both local and international – and much-needed revenue to the City and the Province.

Following last year’s devasting July riots, as well as the recent flooding, this revenue is both welcome, and necessary.

The IFP would also like to offer a word of congratulations to all those who participated in the races, in particular to the jockey and trainer team of Smanga Khumalo and Mike de Kock, who won the main race with their filly, Sparkling Water.

We trust this is but one of many events that will reappear as part of the Province’s tourism offering, as we work towards rebuilding KwaZulu-Natal’s battered infrastructure and economy.
