IFP Welcomes the Dismissal of eThekwini and Msunduzi Mayors

Aug 13, 2019 | Press Releases

The Inkatha Freedom Party Provincial Chairperson, Mayor Thami Ntuli has applauded the decision of axing Zandile Gumede and Themba Njilo from being the mayors of KwaZulu-Natal prestigious municipalities.

Although we welcome the decision by the ANC to dismiss these incompetent mayors who have failed dismally to perform their allotted duties, as the IFP we believe that it has been long overdue. Their failure to provide good leadership have rendered both the municipalities to dysfunctional. This further resulted to the Msunduzi Municipality being placed under the Administrator. The Msunduzi Municipality is in shambles. It has failed to provide services to the people.

The IFP has on several occasions been vocal about the status of the eThekwini Metro. The IFP has been calling for the removal of the mayor and her accomplices for their alleged involvement in corrupt activities in the eThekwini Metro. The lack of competent leadership in the eThekwini Metro has resulted to this municipality receiving Unqualified Audit Report from AG earlier this year. Now it is time for the ANC to appoint competent and trustworthy people to run the affairs of the eThekwini Metro and Msunduzi Municipality. The ANC must do away with cadre deployment and rewarding of incompetent and compromised individuals with senior positions. It is time now for the former eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede to deal with a dark cloud hanging above her head away from the municipality.

Her suspension has depleted the public purse and it was a wasteful expenditure as she was earning a monthly salary while sitting at home doing nothing. Therefore, the IFP call upon all concerned residents of eThekwini and Masunduzi who have been let down by the ANC by appoint incompetent mayors who have failed to provide them with service delivery and jobs to take their frustrations by punishing the ANC in the ballot box in the upcoming 2021 Local Government Elections. The IFP is the only Party that is known for its impeccable track record of corruption free and the provision of service delivery. We are saying people can once more again TRUST US in 2021 and 2024 as they did during 2019 General Elections by voting the IFP to become an official opposition in KwaZulu-Natal.
