The IFP Women’s Brigade (IFPWB) strongly condemns the violent behaviour of Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana, against women at night club in Johannesburg over the past weekend.
The conduct of the deputy Minister is totally unacceptable and Mr Manana must do the right thing and step down with immediate effect and law enforcement agencies must ensure that justice is done without fear, favour or compromise.
No one is above the law.
The integrity and credibility of the law enforcement agencies and the justice system are under test in terms of how they conduct themselves in this matter to restore public confidence and secure the safety of women and children.
Women and child abuse is a patriarchal behaviour form which grinds against the grain of human rights, the constitution, democracy and normal human behaviour.
Those, like Mduduzi Manana, entrusted with responsibilities of public office must at all times personify moral good through their actions and social conduct.
Regardless of the circumstances, violence is never an option.
During this month let us all renew our commitment to the promotion of gender equality and the protection of human rights and women rights.
