IFPYB CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION FOLLOWING SUDDEN RESIGNATION OF UMFOLOZI CFO

Nov 2, 2020 | Press Releases

The abrupt resignation of uMfolozi CFO, Mr Khayelihle Mthethwa, immediately after the IFP Youth Brigade raised corruption concerns in the Municipality, appears to confirm allegations that the Mayor was squandering and embezzling taxpayers’ money.

After the Youth Brigade opened a corruption case at kwaMbonambi Police Station last month, Mr Mthethwa resigned without even serving his 30-day notice period.

However, what is even more worrying, is that he has now been redeployed to the EDTA offices.

His resignation comes after the IFPYB opened a can of worms about the corruption and looting taking place in uMfolozi. Mayor Smangaliso Mgenge is alleged to have deposited a sum of R100 000 into his private account under guise of paying for his tuition at the University of Zululand. The IFPYB reiterates that the money should have been paid directly to the institution’s account. We believe the Mayor also inflated fees for his studies for his personal gain – hence we call for him to step aside while the investigation takes place.

The IFP will leave no stone unturned, as it believes ANC members use taxpayers’ money for self-enrichment, while the community suffers. We believe that the CFO’s resignation is part of the strategy to dodge the investigation, as happens in other ANC-led municipalities.
