KZN Premier Must Lift Cloud Over the Promised R10 Million Glebelands Hostel Security Programme

May 26, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP has challenged the KZN Premier, Senzo Mchunu to provide details on the non-existing R10 million programme to tighten up security at Glebelands Hostel as the situation continues to be volatile.

“Last year the Premier announced that there is an allocation of R10 million to erect fencing and tightening up security at Glebelands Hostel but nothing has happened to date. This hostel has turned into a killing field where people live under constant fear of being killed.. There is no day goes by that people can sleep peacefully without the threat of violence,” said IFP Leader in the KZN Legislature, Mr Blessed Gwala,MPL.

“The Premier must fulfil the promise he made to the public. We are sick and tired of ANC politicians who brag and play cheap politics whenever there are problems in our communities. They just make senseless and empty promises just because they want to score political points while people are dying,” continued Mr Gwala.

“It is surprising because even in the Premier’s Budget there was no R10 million allocated for Glebelands hostel. We are astonished that the Premier can announce such an amount while he knows that he has no such amount provided for in his budget. We demand that this money must be made available and fulfil what the Premier has promised to the people. Our people must live free from fear of violence,” concluded Mr Gwala.

The IFP further calls for the urgent deployment of the army at Glebelands hostel because police and the MEC of Community Safety, Willies Mchunu have failed dismally to stop these senseless killings and to arrest the killers who are allegedly known to the members of the SAPS. The time is up for the police in this hostel because they are ineffective.
