KZN Provincial Government Has Failed Rural Cattle Farmers

Jul 31, 2015 | Press Releases

The IFP has lambasted the KZN Provincial Government, especially the Departments of Agriculture and Cooperative Governance for failing to come up with contingent plans to assist rural cattle farmers as the drought persist.

“Cattle farmers from the KwaLuthuli Community in Glendale Valley in Stanger are one of the examples of how government has failed them during this tough time. Cattle are forced to drink water drops from standpipes because there are no plans in place to help rural cattle farmers. We have heard the MECs speaking about water restrictions but nothing much has been said about providing water in the rural areas for people who keep livestock,” said IFP KZN Provincial Spokesperson on Agriculture, Mr Nhlanhla Msimango,MPL.
“Both the MECs must come up with contingency plans like providing rural cattle farmers with Jojo tanks in those areas where the situation is critical. By failing to help these farmers this will have a negative impact to those who survive by selling livestock to look after their families,” concluded Mr Msimango.

The IFP calls on MEC of Agriculture, Cyril Xaba to urgently assist the KwaLuthuli rural cattle farmers by installing Jojo tanks to help these farmers to get water for their livestock.
