Mass destruction of Property and Trucks near Mooi River Plaza
Apr 30, 2018 | Press Releases
The IFP has strongly condemned the violence and mass destruction of property and trucks, on the N3 freeway near Mooi River Plaza in KwaZulu Natal today, which led to the closure of that road.
Those who have burned trucks on the N3, allegedly did so in protest of the employment of foreign workers to drive these trucks.
“While we agree that unemployment is a crisis, we do however reject the violent nature of this protest, which has had a severe and negative impact on the stability and economic prosperity of the province of KwaZulu Natal,” said IFP Chief Whip and NEC member Narend Singh, MP.
Mr Singh added that the IFP is concerned with the increasing number of violent strikes and protests in the country and government’s lackluster approach to deal with these incidences.
“It is clear that government is losing grip on the rising tide of discontent in our country. When trucks burn on the N3 in KwaZulu Natal, they are nowhere to be found. When violent protests occur, as was recently the case in the North West, they only intervene after the fact. To date, they have still not been able to resolve the bus strike, just as an example. This is unacceptable. Too many South Africans continue to bear the brunt of government’s failures.”
Singh concluded, “We call on government to provide decisive leadership to ensure that we adequately address all these challenges before they further impede South Africa’s non-existent economic growth.”
